Rich Kid Basketball

Rich Kid basketball. Their game is very, very, different. They fear contact. They call fouls when you so much as breathe in their direction. They prefer shooting 3’s and looking good rather than setting screens and driving for a higher percentage shot.
Playing defense or boxing out do not exist. The Rich Kid basketball world comes to a halt every time someone hits the floor or when a penetrator gets bumped hard. Tempers flair when the game gets rough.

The upside to Rich Kid basketball is that everything is organized. They run plays, and they know their roles. They’re really skilled at shooting and avoiding contact. Man, can they shoot! They’re really good at arguing calls too.

No disrespect meant. These guys play good basketball, it’s just too clean for me. It lacks a bit of the grit that I prefer. Everyone knows I play it rough and hard. I don’t do it any other way. Let’s just say that Rich Kid basketball is everything I’m not, and needless to say, I looked like an outcast out there. Think Danny Fortson playing for the Suns.

Here’s what I came up with - (in no particular order)

1.) Kissing
2.) Hugging tightly
3.) Checking out someone and finding out that she’s doing the same to you
4.) Forgoing your first Boracay trip for the other’s birthday
5.) Coming up with enough guts to talk to a total stranger that you really like
6.) Coming up with even more guts to get her number / ask her out
7.) Saying a sincere “it’s ok ” when the other makes a huge mistake
8.) Getting into the other person’s hobby even if it really doesn’t interest you at all
9.) Waiting out for hours, days, even months for her to change her mind (like in Cinema Paradiso)
10.) Making life-changing (and potentially life damaging) decisions for the sake of the one you love

that’s all i can really think of right now..

Old Friends, New Friends

I was hanging out with a friend from Cebu that I sat beside on my flight to Manila. She was staying close to where I work, and we decided to go shopping for stuff. It’s just kinda nice to get new friends once in a while.

Anyway, at around 10pm, I saw Kent by accident, and we hung out. Wangbu was in town, so we hung out with him too. Just like back in the old college days. Same jokes, same humor, same faces, and same stories. Man, I don’t get tired of these guys. I also got to see a lot of familiar faces at the fort. It’s a really good blast from the past.

Oh yeah, I finally got inside the tent. I’ve always wondered what it is like to be in a “hip” place. There was no entrance fee and drinks were given out for free. (I don’t know why, but I’m not complaning!) Anyway, I really felt that I didn’t belong there. I mean, the place is good, and I got to see a lot of really, really nice girls (drooooool). Too bad I lack the skills and confidence to talk to anyone of them. Sayang. Hopefully… Someday…
